got my 2013 MDX base, found some minor rattle noise

now already put about 700 miles on it

during the drive, after the car warms up there is a very slight plastic scratching or vibrating noise. (it's really not that obvious, only happen in slight bumpy road and with cabin quiet, it easily get covered with music or radio)

it drive me nuts but finally I think I found where it comes from, it seems come from the the dash, the top part of the speed and rpm gauge.

see above pictures, anyone had experience of that, do you think I should just insert some type of foam, or it worth to take back to dealership for a whole examination (and even not sure if it's common for MDX or not)

just wondering if it's common.

take it to the dealer. tell them EXACTLY when the rattle occurs, ride in the car with them otherwise you'll get the "unable to duplicate problem at this time". if they come back and ultimately CAN'T fix it...then start searching for your own solutions. i have not read anything about dash rattles being common on the MDX.

i'm noticing the same type of rattling noise in my '13 with tech. you're correct you can only hear it when it's completely silent. i've noticed i can hear it when on a highway where it's not pavement but of the concrete sort (you can hear it continuously there with all the vibrations of the road). i haven't been able to isolate it but it was definitely on the driver side. the guy thought i was nuts when i was telling him about the noise as he claims to not be able to hear it from the passenger side.

i'd be curious to know if you ever find a solution to it...

My 2013 doesn't have that noise but the ceiling next to sun roof sometime rattles. If I push it up with my hand it stops for a while. It almost seems that it is held to the metal structure by double sided tape.

I too experience the exact same thing in my 12 Tech. Strangely enough, I didn't experience this in my old 09 base. Luckily, the noise coming from my preschooler and toddler in the back seat pretty much drowns this out most of the time.

I dont have that dash lip on my '11 Advanced.
Leather goes around and under.

Stethoscopes are the best way to determine and verify when and where rattles occur.
Female Panty shields shoved into cracks and spaces are great ways to eliminate rattles.

If it's rattling, ask them to go on a test drive with you to replicate it. If it continually happens just ask them to open that area up and put some foam padding or felt in it to keep the stuff from rubbing! For gods sake the car is BRAND NEW!!!

I will want to take it to dealer sometime this week or the week after

but the best way is to let dealer drive it, and it's obvious when in the night.

I tried tighten the screw on the top a little more today, and would try it a few more days and see how it goes.

do you plan to fix it or not?
I know i'm sensitive to that since my wife are completely fine with it, though she can hear it also.

totally agree, I think the assembly sucks.
the trim on the door and the center console trim does not aligned well too.

it disappointed me a lot, feels really cheap.
I'm a little regret didn't insist go X5 or X3

It is cold where you live ?.

I wonder if this will go away in warm weather. My MDX is rattle-free, but our previous car was notorious for winter rattles that would disappear in the warmer months.

I live in northern California, the slight rattle noise only happen when car warms up

I think it's kind of plastic rubbing sound, coming from the gauge
when I hold it, the rattle will be much less.

just want to see if anyone who are sensitive to sound that have the same issue, or the better if anyone can suggest a solution (or report it's fixable by dealer)

update:

this time I find out the real noise maker, it's from the steering column, I think it's coming from the plastic cover of the steering column.
whenever I hold the steering wheel firmly (like hold it down firmly), the noise goes away.

not sure if anyone have information or similar experience about this issue, for now I'm not really sure it's a plastic cover thing or it's the steering column is not assembled right.

for driving perspective, everything seems fine.

any recommendation

You should hear this ILX Tech I have as a loaner, it has 5K on it and the dash where the radio is makes a constant clicking.

I think mine is from the steering wheel column or it's plastic cover, anyway, it's not from dash.
