17 MDX Advance to 20 Sport Hybrid Advance

My 2017 was up for lease end and have been cross shopping X5, Q7, XC90, Cayenne and new GLE 450 but I kept coming back to Acura. The Sport Hybrid was always the model I wanted but when I purchased my 2017 the Sport Hyrbid didn't lease very well. Now 3 years later its a different story. $61,750 sticker...walked away with the vehicle for $48k out the door. I also own a BMW M3 zcp so the deals were pretty good on the new X5 as well (loyalty cash) but for the money the MDX is the way to go. All I can say is wow what a difference this Hybrid is compared to the regular MDX. I didn;t realize how bad the 9 speed was in that vehicle until I drove this new one with the dual clutch for a while.

Another hybrid owner joining the ever growing ranks! Any mods planned?

The only issue I have is the hybrid doesn't like freezing temps and mpgs can be worse than the 3.5L in those conditions. Other than that, the hybrid handles more like a sports wagon than SUV. I keep mine in Sport mode because I like the feel of the firmer suspension.

Congrats on the new sport hybrid. Any tips you can share how you got that price? All the dealers I've contacted have given me prices in the low 50s for a sport hybrid advance (53-54k).

keep going at the dealers. I had to drive 230 miles to land this deal. They are out there...just have to be patient and send lots of emails. It took me many months to find the right deal.

only mod so far is probably tinted windows...and hitch for bike rack. I did notice being out here in the cold the mileage isn’t the greatest. Can’t wait to see what it does in summer.

I love the remote start in winter because it turns on the heated windshield, heated steering wheel, windshield defogger, and heated seats. Zero issues with my hybrid in 95-105 degree summer heat in the southwest. Several trips to San Antonio with heat+humidity that felt like it was in the triple digits. The hybrid ran like a champ with EPA or better mpgs in those temps, A/C was cold, and really didn't have to adjust the auto cooled seats. Window tint, windshield sun shield, and remote start in summer will help keep the cabin cool on the hottest days. NOTE: Acuralink app remote start feature is only for the +19 RDX.

Congrats man! Like I always say the Hybrid is a beast when you want it too and quite when you need it to. Every passenger I get compliments the power and transmission combo. I'd say the MDX Hybrid is the sleeper of the 3 row SUVs under $60k. Seeing you own a M3, get some wider 255 width summer tires and you'll see what the SH-AWD is capable of.

It is such a sleeper! I need to get wider tires! Great suggestion and thanks for the heads up on size.

I was in the same boat...I was half tempted to wait for the 2021 mdx but I figured the last model year of the mdx is probably a better choice with most the bugs worked out. The new model may have some bugs so I’ll wait a couple years.

Having an RLX Sport Hybrid I concur with the way it drives and the performance - wish the 3.5L was in the MDX so you could get the full sport hybrid experience. :-)

But the 9 speed I feel still gets a bad rap, especially with the later model years. I had a '17 for about 20K miles and got used to the way it shifted. When I moved to the '19 Advance I was amazed at how much more refined it is vs the '17. I know that they did some work on the SW but also some HW changes. When I drive the wife's RLX SH back-to-back with my '19 MDX with the 9 speed, there's not a ton of difference in the way the tranny behaves. Just my experience after 7 months of having back-to-back driving experience...
