2010 first oil change

My new 2010 has 6.7K miles and the oil change is at 40%. I know the metering is dynamic and the car has done 50-50 city highway but my thoughts are that approx 10K for the first oil change is excessive mileage. I know that there will be responses that I should change at 3K and that there is a special Honda brand break in oil when new but would other owners please chime in with their first oil change mileage numbers and what was the mileage and percentage was when changed?

We did ours at 5k, 10k (15k is coming up) and it was ~50% both times. I like to keep it at every 5k miles....it helps me remember (without a sticker in the window). Its probably overkill but....

My wife drives the car a lot....20-25k a year.

I plan on using the computer to let me know when to do the change. My biggest concern is should I switch from dino to synthetic...

Do you get regular oil or synthetic. I'm not planning on getting the oil change from the dealrship as my closest Acura dealership is about 40 min away.

either way I will go to Costco:thumbsup:

Much cheaper for oil & tires

Costco is not always the cheapest and sometimes you get what you pay for... my2c

I just got my first oil change in my 2010 three weeks ago.

I had right around the same mileage as you (+/- 7,500) and was around 25% on the oil life meter (I know they only register in 10% increments, but it was on 30% for a while and had not shown 20% yet, so I call it 25%...)

Plus, I had gotten a coupon in the mail from Acura for a free A1 or B1 service (oil change and tire rotation) that expired today, so I figured I would take advantage of the coupon...

I used to do my cars at 50%, but, for some reason, I am more comfortable taking the Acura down to 25%...

I second that ... costco is a NO-NO for me ....

DIY is another option, you know exactly what you used on them ..... dealer is ok but they charge you way over ....

I have 2010 honda pilot 6,600 miles. oil life is 40% left. I am planning to change when it say 10%. I am going with castrol syntec synthetic.

According to gary flint, honda chief engineer say honda engine is not fully broke in untill it has 7 - 10,000 miles.

Thanks for the responses. My other comment is that when I have taken my RL (and now my MDX as well) in for an oil change they also check for updates, recalls and other fixes that only the dealer gets notification of. The 05 RL is notorious for having "issues" but because I always took it to Acura it ended up with all the updates and I have never had some of the problems (software and hardware) that others have had. I feel the same way about the MDX although the MMC is very refined and bug free. I have also taken my RL to Acura for an oil change and have supplied my own oil and filter but the price break is not worth the effort. The price of the oil change at Acura relative to the price somewhere else is within $10 so, if there is a dealer nearby, take it there is my recommendation.

Cheapest???? No way it's the MOST expensive.....I call it the $600.00 club....

I have never had an issue with Costco, they have done 80% of my oil changes on my Accord, A4, TL. I have also used them for tires and found them to be of great value

I'm at 3,000 miles and 70% for the first 95 days. I will change to Pennzoil Ultra at the end of December, or 6,000 miles, whichever comes first.
